What is a Stretch Goal?

Michelangelo quote

“The greatest danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it.”

– Michelangelo

I think this quote is a call to create stretch goals.

A stretch goal – as its name suggests – is to stretch ourselves, to go outside our comfort zone, to try something different, and to adopt new methods and strategies.

My tip:

  1. Plan your stretch target in advance.
  2. Make small changes, don’t change everything at once.
  3. Strive to continually improve – one area at a time.

For example, my stretch goal for these ‘quote of the day’ posts, is to include additional text describing what the quote means to me, and to design a graphic for each quote.

Leonardo Da Vinci, a contemporary of Michelangelo, was a famous procrastinator who started a lot more projects then he ever finished. His aim was often too high, his mental stretch sometimes much further than his physical reach but, I like the fact he never lacked in ambition to improve.

He didn’t settle. Neither should I. Or you. – HFBKBU.
